Business is Puzzling for
Bringing Families Together One Puzzle at A Time.
Sierra Vista, Arizona - February 20, 2002 - When
it came to developing a business plan, one Arizona family put
all the pieces together and it spelled Putzie's Puzzles
Store."Our primary goal when we opened our store and started our
website was to challenge and entertain the mind using quality
products," said owner Elizabeth Nickerson. "We feel that many
children and adults spend too much time playing video and
computer games or sitting zoned out in front of the TV."
The family-owned store sells products from its Sierra Vista,
Arizona location and online at http://www.putziespuzzles.com. It
boasts the largest selection of Jigsaw puzzles in Southeastern
Arizona with at least 500 different titles on its shelves at any
given time. The store has something for every age and skill
level -- from 2 piece puzzles for the youngest puzzler to over
13,000 piece puzzles for experts.
Putzie's runs puzzle contests like "Seeking the Worlds' Fastest
Puzzler" and at closing time, if customers are still in the
store, the staff often opens a game and forms teams to have an
impromptu "Family Game Night".
Nostalgic for your favorite childhood game? The store will find
it for you or direct you to a source. "We are always looking for
unusual and educational products. All of our products are
educational, stimulating and fun." Some of the store's board
games ask you to "Name That State or Country", answer trivia
questions about wild life, geography, science, or math. The
store stocks many puzzle books -- from 5 minute "Who Done Its"
to critical and logical thinking books. Crosswords and Mazes are
always a hit. Science experiments and kits, Dinosaur Digs, and
things to build: from a wooden construction set for toddlers to
"Rollerscape", the Ultimate Challenge for adult builders.
"An educated mind is our best promise for the future," believes
Mike Nickerson, Elizabeth's husband. Mike also thought of the
name of the store, calling it Putzie's Puzzles after his wife
who he said is always putzing around. "She never takes enough
time to sit down and relax, plus Putzie's Puzzles had a certain
charm to it."
"Puzzles and games both play an essential part in learning basic
skills. We have had many elementary school teachers tell us that
their students could not put puzzles together," Mike Nickerson
said. "Some of these children have never done a puzzle at home
with their families. Young children need this type of activity
to prepare them for reading and math. Puzzles and educational
games help with all of the following skills: memory, matching,
association, recognition, spatial thinking, pattern matching,
fractions, lateral thinking skills symmetry, spatial
visualization, problem solving, geometry, science and illusion,
counting skills, cause and effect, imagination, naming of
people, animals, objects, planning, color matching, alphabet
recognition, and more."
Because of the family's belief in a strong education, their
store offers a teacher discount. "Many fine teachers need to use
their own money to buy classroom supplies and fun learning tools
for their students. We offer a discount as our way to give back
to the community. Teachers are pleased with all of our products.
We also have occupational and physical therapists that use our
large knob wooden puzzles, 'Latches & Basic Skills' boards, sign
language peg puzzles, and our textured wooden puzzles to help
When people were asked for their New Year's resolution for 2002,
for the first time in decades, the top answer was "spend time
with family". So what better way to do that then playing an
educational game or putting together a jigsaw puzzle.
The Putzie's Puzzles website offers the largest selection of
jigsaw puzzles from more than 17 manufacturers. All the items in
the store are available to its Internet customers. A "Puzzlegram"
newsletter is sent out by email to website customers. In
addition to local customers, Putzie's Puzzles has customers in
Italy, Austria, Germany, Greece, UK, Brussels and other
